Frontia’s expertise covers the entire field of competition law, including merger control, cartels, dominance, private enforcement, competitor cooperation, information exchange, distribution, online trade, digital platforms, dawn raids, compliance programs and state aid. In addition to domestic cases, we represent clients in front of the EU institutions and give strategic competition law advice in international matters. We are also experienced in matters related to communications market regulation and energy market regulation. In addition, Frontia regularly advices clients in foreign direct investment control (FDI) processes in Finland.

Frontia successfully acted as lead competition counsel to both parties, i.e., Neova and Lassila & Tikanoja, when they combined their energy wood businesses into a joint venture. The transaction was notified to and approved by the Finnish and Swedish competition authorities. Following a thorough investigation and despite considerable overlaps between the parties, the FCCA cleared the transaction unconditionally at the end of Phase 1 on 29 April 2022.
Counsel in a number of public and private enforcement cases in Finland, such as the plastic HVAC infra pipes case, the real estate management case, the asphalt case, the EPS insulation case, and the electricity networks construction case.
Frontia advised the private equity house Sponsor Capital in securing Phase I merger control clearance for the add-on acquisition of Finncont Oy in the waste sector and the unconditional Phase II clearance for the divestment of Myllyn Paras Oy to Lantmännen in the bakery sector.
Frontia represented Digita Oy in the process under the Act on Electronic Communication Services in the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency (Traficom) and the EU Commission concerning the regulation of Significant Market Power (SMP) in the Finnish broadcasting sector. In November 2022, Traficom approved Digita’s voluntary commitments, which replaced Digita’s earlier SMP obligations regarding TV transmission services. The commitment process was applied for the first time in Finland.
Frontia is the joint competition counsel to Finnish nuclear power companies concerning the development of licensing and approval procedures for procurements made to nuclear power plants (KELPO).
